Welcome to the Blush Medical Aesthetics blog. We're really excited to have a space where we can share what's happening in the world of aesthetics, answer some of the questions we get asked every day in clinic and, most importantly, give you accurate, honest information.
If you have met us before, it's nice to see you again! And if you're new, let me tell you a little bit about Blush. We are a medically led, award winning clinic based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Founded by Rebecca Walsh back in 2022, Blush has continued to grow and expand into the team of experts we are now. What sets Blush aside from other clinics is not only the standard of clinical excellence within the team, but the incredible results and client care we give to every single person who walks through the door.
But enough about us, this blog is about you...
And let's face it; the aesthetics industry can be a confusing place.
There are hundreds of treatments to choose from, thousands of opinions online and social media is full of people telling you what you should and shouldn't have done. Add in celebrity transformations (I still want to know who was responsible for Kris Jenner and Lindsay Lohan's), horror stories and conflicting advice, and it's no wonder so many people feel overwhelmed before they've even booked a consultation.
Our aim for this blog is simple...
We want to cut through some of that noise.
Whether you're completely new to aesthetics or you've had treatments for years, we want you to feel more informed, more confident and better equipped to make the decisions that are right for you. No pressure, no scare tactics and certainly no trying to convince you that you need treatments you don't.
Just honest information from people who genuinely care about helping you look and feel your best.
Aesthetics has changed
When many people think about aesthetics, they still picture the treatments that dominated the industry years ago.
Oversized lips. Frozen foreheads. Faces that no longer move. Cheeks that look overfilled and expressions that seem to have disappeared altogether.Â
I'm sure every single person reading this can think of at least one celebrity whose treatment became more famous than they did (for all the wrong reasons).
Thankfully, things have started to changed.
Not only have treatments become far more advanced, but our understanding of ageing has evolved too.Â
Pro-aging is replacing anti-aging.
So rather than trying to simply fill every line and wrinkle, modern aesthetics are increasingly focused on supporting the skin itself and restoring what naturally changes as we age. The goal isn't to make you look like somebody else. It's to help you look like the healthiest, freshest version of yourself. The best compliment after treatment shouldn't be, "Who did your filler?" It should be, "You look really well."
The rise of regenerative aesthetics
One of the biggest shifts we've seen over the last few years is the move towards regenerative treatments. And yes, that is why you may have heard people discussing having salmon sperm injected into their faces.
Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which replace lost volume immediately, regenerative treatments encourage your body to do what it already knows how to do, produce collagen, and improve the quality of your own skin.
That means results don't appear overnight.
Instead, they develop gradually over the weeks and months that follow, leaving skin looking healthier, firmer and more youthful without anyone necessarily being able to pinpoint why.
It's one of the reasons these treatments have become so popular. People still want to look refreshed, but increasingly they're asking for natural results that don't advertise they've had aesthetic treatment.
Which brings us perfectly to the focus of our first blog...
So, what is Radiesse?
Despite often being grouped alongside dermal fillers, Radiesse is actually quite different.
Yes, it can provide some immediate support and structure where needed, but its real magic happens beneath the surface. Radiesse is made from tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a smooth gel. These microspheres act as a scaffold within the skin, stimulating your body's natural production of collagen and elastin.
Collagen is the protein responsible for keeping skin firm and supported, while elastin gives skin its ability to bounce back. Unfortunately, from our mid-twenties onwards, we gradually produce less and less of both. That's why skin can begin to lose firmness, elasticity and overall quality as we age.Â
However, rather than simply masking those changes, Radiesse encourages your body to rebuild from within. As the gel is naturally broken down over time, your own newly produced collagen remains, helping to create improvements that can continue developing for several months after treatment. In other words, it's working with your body rather than replacing what has been lost.Â
I think we've probably all had moments where we've looked in the mirror, pulled our skin upwards, and sighed. Good skin really does feel wasted on youth, but treatments such Radiesse are backed by science and rigorous clinic trials; it really does do what it says on the tin.Â
We don't follow fads at Blush; we follow evidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can Radiesse treat?
One of the reasons practitioners love Radiesse is its versatility. It can be used to improve skin quality, restore structural support, and stimulate collagen production in several areas of the face and body.
Depending on your individual concerns, Radiesse may be used to improve:
-
Skin laxity and loss of firmness
-
Jawline definition
-
Lower face support
-
Fine lines and crepey skin
-
The neck and décolletage
-
Hands showing signs of ageing
Treatments at Blush are always tailored to the individual because no two faces age in exactly the same way. That's why booking a consultation is so important. Rather than recommending the same treatment for everyone, we'll assess your skin, discuss your goals and create a plan that's right for you.
Is it right for everyone?
Not necessarily, and that's okay.
One thing we're passionate about at Blush is recommending the right treatment for your face. Some people will benefit more from anti-wrinkle injections. Others may still be better suited to dermal filler, skin boosters or medical-grade skincare. And often the best results come from combining treatments over time rather than trying to achieve everything in one appointment.
That's exactly why every journey at Blush starts with a consultation.
Does it hurt?
I'll be the first to admit, this is one if the first questions I'll ask when it comes to treatments. My pain threshold is embarrassingly low.
Radiesse is not one of those truly uncomfortable treatments and is actually very managable, especially as it mixed with lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. The first couple of entry points may sting a little, but after that it tends to become numb.
What's the down time like?
Downtime for this one is minimal, hurrah! As with all treatments involving a needle, there is the risk of some bruising and swelling but you should be fine within a week. But do bare this in mind when considering when to book, it's probably better not to do it just before a big event!
What's the difference between Radiesse and Sculptura?
One of the key advantages of Radiesse over Sculptra is that it stimulates the production of both collagen AND elastin, helping to restore not only firmness but also the skin's natural elasticity. It also promotes angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), improving tissue health and skin quality over time. Radiesse is associated with a lower risk of delayed nodule formation than Sculptra.
The future of aesthetics
If there's one "trend" we think is here to stay, it's natural looking results, and it's what we're known best for here at Blush. People aren't looking to erase every sign of ageing. They want healthier skin. Better quality. More confidence. They want friends to notice they look refreshed without immediately assuming they've had treatment. They want to be able to hide it from their partners if they choose (and we're always happy to keep your secrets).
For us, that's exactly what good aesthetics should be. It's about helping you feel more confident when you look in the mirror, not changing who you are.
Over the coming months we'll be sharing more blogs covering popular treatments, common myths, skincare advice, and everything else you might want to know about aesthetics.
